MQF means three days of films about HBTQIA, three days where norms and stereotypes will be challenged, and the ordinary has to stand back for the odd.
We open Malmö Queer Film Festival on Friday April 27th, and we are proud to present a gig with JUNK RIVER at the opening of the festival. We meet JUNK RIVER again in a film in our close to legendary program LOCAL HEROES, with regional short films, guests and film talks, following the opening mingle. The Q&A is being interpreted into Swedish sign language. In the evening we present our incredibly beautiful and amazingly political opening film, VEM SKA KNULLA PAPPA? The Q&A with director Antiffa Vänsterfitta and producer Mafalda Ruiz is being interpreted into Swedish sign language.
On Saturday afternoon, there will be a short film program for all kinds of families and people of all ages, with sing-along after the movies. We introduce our panel discussion on LGBTQIA+ ACTIVISM IN SWEDEN with the movie LESBIAN FACTORY, about a labour dispute in Taiwan. The panel discussion is being interpreted into Swedish sign language. In the evening, we will screen the modern film classic BORN IN FLAMES, which feels incredibly contemporary and raises questions of how our future will look like and how we want to fight for it. The evening ends with a short film program with porn movies, discussion and a mingle. What's better than to start (or continue) a Sunday morning with a film matinée?
On Sunday 29th, the film ALIGARH is presented by Siddharth Chadhamed who gives background information about the juridical situation in India in connection to Section 377, the law that prohibits homosexual acts and a relic of the British colonial power. A film about homophobia and legal struggle. In the afternoon, we continue with an international short film program, and then with a poetic contribution from Thailand, HOW TO WIN AT CHECKERS (EVERY TIME), about three youths and how their class determines their lives and destiny. MQF 2018 closes with KIKI, a film about a lively activist art-form that supports LGBTQ youth-of-colour in theirs struggle for their rights.
The Q&A at the regional short film-program LOCAL HEROES and the Q&A after the opening-film VEM SKA KNULLA PAPPA?, as well as the panel-discussion LGBTQIA+ ACTIVISM IN SWEDEN (panel discussion will be in Swedish) will be interpreted into Swedish sign language.
What´s happening apart from film during MQF 2018?
