CGiii Comment

Expectations were running high...because of Eytan Fox's impressive back catalogue.

Think Mamma Mia...with the same song played over and over again - sung by a skinny man in a dress and an ill-fitting wig.

First, the music is bad - Svika Pick is 'famous' for penning the 1998 Eurovision winner 'Diva' - not exactly something to be proud of...

His repertoire is...more of the same...ad nauseam.

Second, the characters are all grotesque - admittedly, some are very beautiful to look at...but, beauty alone does not propel a story.

Third, the story...who thought this drivel up???

It goes from the ridiculous to the sublimely ridiculous...punctuated by the numerous and unwelcome additions of badly staged, banal Pick pop songs. Is there such a thing as a good Pick song???

Every director has a bad day - this was one of the worst...

Really...for Pick fans only - enjoy...both of you.

The(ir) Blurb...

A modern fable with a catchy musical message and a story based on the songs of Israeli pop legend Svika Pick. Miriam (Maya Dagan) is an adoring fan of Svika Pick (who appears as himself). She dreams of being a famous singer, leading her to mysteriously abandon her son Meir (Ido Rosenberg) on his tenth birthday. Both Meir and his best school friend Shuli-who happens to be a beautiful girl-have their eye on the same gorgeous guy. But despite worthy distractions, Meir never stops searching for his mother, eventually moving to Tel Aviv and becoming famous as a drag queen named Mary Lou. The songs never stop coming as Meir/Mary Lou discovers he needs to find himself even more than his mother.
