CGiii Comment

A fascinating look at the 'scandal' - still [and, possibly, forever], the whole [truthful] story remains to be told.

Dodgy posh boys and dodgy rent boys...sorry, Norman, but 'rent' is what you were...are like oil and water...and, when mixed with the recklessness of youth and the abuse of power and position...then, sparks are bound to fly!

The whole hoopla was centred around a missing and much craved for National Insurance number...believe that and you will believe absolutely anything...and yes, it needs to be said...blackmail. Sorry Norman, but that is what you were...an insidious blackmailer!

Thorpe was no better. A deceitful snake - if ever there was one! These two men met their matches...in each other and each got their just desserts!

What makes this film so poignant is the addendum. Mr Scott is regretful...because, in the long-term, the whole 'affair' got him nowhere near where he wanted to be.

The folly of youth, the wisdom of age!

The(ir) Blurb...

In 1979, former Liberal Party leader Jeremy Thorpe was tried for his involvement in the attempted murder of his former gay lover Norman Scott. This documentary about the political forces that tried to protect Thorpe was made on the assumption that he would be found guilty, but was scrapped when an unexpected not-guilty verdict was returned. It was shown for the first time in 2018, alongside the dramatization A Very English Scandal (2018), in an updated and edited form, following the death of Thorpe which prevents him bringing a libel action.
