CGiii Comment

A rambling, misleading film...for Roller Derby enthusiasts only. There's nothing wrong with niche film-making...we're all part of a community and need to be represented.

The blurb says this is about a 10-year-old transgender girl, Crystal, "who finds acceptance and empowerment in the company of a queer roller derby collective."

That is - indeed - part of the story - but, a small part...

The rest of the film is an advertorial for the Vagine Regime - obviously, Tremblay is a mighty big fan. The sycophancy is a tad over-powering...

Other trans stories are thrown into the mix...poor little Crystal is almost forgotten.

There are three areas worthy of concern...with varying degrees of gravity...

We learn practically nothing about Roller Derby - apart from it being a contact 'sport' (is that exclusively?!?) dominated by 'queer' women?!?

GOD!!! Do we hate that word: Queer.

The sexualisation of 'sport' - do they really need to emerge into the arena through a gigantic vagina...they might think it's funny, it's not...there goes the family audience!

And, most importantly, the bizarre discrimination...a trans man is not allowed to 'play' but can still be involved...as a referee.

Needless to say, none of these concerns are adequately handled...sycophants never ask challenging questions!

A one-sided, poorly constructed, overly long commercial...for [queer] Roller Derby enthusiasts only.
