CGiii Comment

Take a classic novel, give it to a fairly inexperienced writer...then, hand it onto a serious director, cast some muscle Marys and some screaming Queens and locate the whole thing on the gayest island [known to man] in the universe! What could possibly go wrong!?!

Well...just about nothing! It, strangely, works...on an non-academical level! However, it's not all camp and glitter...Mr Ahn has a few things to say about the [incomprehensible] racism and [overt] snobbery that [blatantly] exist within the gay community.

Let's be honest the gay community has so many fractures and divisions...it's almost nonsensical to even call it a community. This 'Fire Island' posse are [mostly] like-minded, promiscuous party animals, their hedonism is their armour...and that armour remains undented even when they are attacked by that bizarre heteronormative gay angst. Isn't it incredible to think that so many LGBT people's definition of Equality is [heteronormative] marriage!?!

Here, the two hetero-homo culprits are looking for their happy-ever-after...on fly-by-night Fire Island!?! Delusional or what?

But, hey, it's a movie...and a feelgood one at that. So...they [those HnHs] might just get what they are after...or, more realistically...not! Duh!

Having been to Fire Island...this is not filled with the magnificent debauchery experienced! This is a fairly safe film...with issues and characters that all could have been developed more...but, hey...it's a party island and a party film.

What it does do...it serves up delicious helpings of eye-candy, optimism and idealism...and, we could all do with lashings of each.
