Mea Culpa

Country: Belgium, Language: Arabic, 72 mins

  • Director: Patrick Tass

CGiii Comment

Patrick Tass conjures up a deeply personal digital collage of video calls and home movies to trace his complex family history across Lebanon and Belgium.

‘There are so many things I want to tell you,’ notes Patrick Tass in this cinematic letter to Randa, his mother. As he tries to bridge the geographical and generational gaps between them, Tass creates a beautiful, intimate and imagistic portrait, peeling back the layers of himself that he has kept hidden, and unravelling the intersectionality between his sexuality and nationality.
