Makio Kodai (Yui Aragaki) is a shy 35-year-old woman. She works as a novelist. One day, her sibling and her sibling's married partner die in a car accident. Makio Kodai attends their funeral and meets her 15-year-old niece Asa Takumi (Ikoi Hayase), who is now left alone due to her parents' death. The other relatives at the funeral speak insensitive words around Asa Takumi. Makio Kodai gets furious at them and decides to take in her niece. Makio Kodai, who has problems having relationships with other people, and Asa Takumi now begin to live together.
