As Myanmar has opened it’s doors to the world, so too has the LGBT community started to become more visible and vocal. The Yangon LGBT film festival adds to the LGBT cultural scene and will celebrate the breadth and diversity of Asian LGBT lives. Focusing on films from Southeast Asia and other asian countries, as well as fostering new productions from young Myanmar activists and film makers, our aim is to encourage discussion and debate around LGBT issues and to showcase the role of film in encouraging social debate.
The festival welcomes documentary and fictional films, long and short. All films with a principal LGBT storyline, or which address the LGBT community’s experience, will be welcome. All films will be subtitled in Burmese, and directors, producers and actors will be invited to discuss their work with the audience in open sessions between showings.
