Welcome to the crazy, perilous, egotistical world that is haute couture...

It's a little difficult to write about a film when you 'knew' the person and had 'history' with one of the narrators!

Putting all personal [antiquated] issues aside...McQueen is a mighty fine film indeed. Capturing all of the highs and all of the lows of an industry that is as cut-throat as an assassin's convention.

Call him what you will...enfant terrible...maverick...Alexander McQueen was a craftsman, an artist...and, a visionary...who fell, from the heady heights of [huge] success, into a personal pool of despair. Nothing short of a tragedy. Could it have been avoided? We'll never know...some things will always [and should] remain unanswered.

Thankfully, this film goes nowhere near the tatty tabloid route, unearthing scurrilous scandals...instead, this is a fitting celebration...of a remarkable man with a remarkable talent...who got where he got sheer determination, grit, personality and hard work.

It's a wonderful story that should have had a happy ending. Sadly, not...but, Alexander McQueen will not be forgotten, he made a permanent mark on the world and left behind a Brand and an enviable legacy...not only his clothes and shows...but, a blueprint - for the up-and-coming designers - for success in the crazy, perilous, egotistical world that is haute couture...

A fine portrait of a devilshly fine man!

Here's to you Lee...those nights in the King Edward IV [in Islington], happy days.

The(ir) Blurb...

Alexander McQueen's rags-to-riches story is a modern-day fairy tale, laced with the gothic. Mirroring the savage beauty, boldness and vivacity of his design, this documentary is an intimate revelation of his McQueen's own world, both tortured and inspired, which celebrates a radical and mesmerizing genius of profound influence.
