CGiii Comment
"Another trans hooker dies... Whatever."
Michaela “Traps” Sinclair (writer/director/star Louise Weard) is a trans sex worker trying to get by in Vancouver while also mentoring her recently-out friend Adeline (Aoife Josie Clements) and making an attempt at pursuing actual motherhood. Meanwhile, a lowly production assistant named Turner (Noah Baker) finds himself dangerously spiraling into inceldom as his current relationship implodes.
The first two chapters (running a total of 275 minutes with intermission) of what will eventually become a 16+ hour film, Louise Weard’s Castration Movie is easily the longest movie to ever play Frameline — and for good reason. Featuring appearances from festival favorites Vera Drew (The People’s Joker), Alice Maio Mackay (Carnage for Christmas, Frameline48), Cricket Arrison (By Design, Frameline49), Avalon Fast (The Serpent’s Skin, Frameline49), and more, the film is quite possibly one of the most vivid portraits of trans life to have ever been captured on obsolete Hi8 videotape. Don’t let the runtime scare you — Castration Movie is electrifying, uncompromising, inspiring, and real in a way that so little trans cinema is.
