Whity

Country: Germany, Language: German, 95 mins

  • Director: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
  • Writer: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
  • Producer: Peter Berling; Ulli Lommel

CGiii Comment

Fassbinder does a spaghetti western in German...with a soundtrack that would offend a deaf ear.

He, and his ego, play (ridiculously) a ranchero in a stilted saloon with stupefying stunt-work.

It is an insult to Leone, the master and chef supreme of spaghetti.

Here, Fassbinder's dysfunctional family have sons who all look like pallid vampires - everyone is so lethargic...coma-inducing for the audience.

An astoundingly bad film.

The(ir) Blurb...

Whity is the mulatto butler of the dysfunctional Nicholson family in the south-west U.S. in 1878. The father, Ben Nicholson, has an attractive young wife, Katherine, and two sons by a previous marriage; the homosexual Frank and the disabled Davy. Whity tries to carry out all their orders, however demeaning, until various of the family members ask him to kill some of the others.
