Algie, the Miner
- Director: Harry Schenck; Edward Warren
- Producer: Alice Guy
An early look at gay cinema - fascinating? Most definitely.
Funny? Now that depends on your opinion and your sensitivity.
The sissy was a common element in early films and, if you have to struggle to get your head round that very fact then...your blood is going to boil. One of the first ludicrous stereotypes.
But...it has to be said...it is bloody funny.
Algie, the Miner is a gay-cowboy movie made nearly a century before Brokeback Mountain, whose fey lead is sent westward so that he might butch up in preparation for the task of heterosexual courtship.
