The words "hijra", "khusra" or "khwajasara" make us have goosebumps, we ridicule them, crack disgusting jokes questioning there sexual identity. We never realizing what are those poor creatures facing, a crises that excommunicates them from there family, loved ones, education from all the major social spheres of life... we never ask this question "ARE WE DOING JUSTICE TO THE THIRD GENDER?"
The movie "3rd gender" or "teasri jins" is one way of answering this question, this is story is about Bubbly a hijra by birth, he is a jolly wise old fellow but the society's rude and cold behavior gives a very hard time to this poor fellow and shatters him.
The story might be fictional but it has a glimpse of truth in it,the cruel reality of our society's attitude towards this so called "taboo", it shows the actual feelings of the hijra community, the set up and ways of earing also it highlights the normal attitude of our community towards them.
Bubbly is broken off from his roots, his family, from his mother's tender touch and is left abandoned at the hijra communities doors, his life journey starts from a homeless baby who is dreaded upon by his father and grandmother gets adopted by a hijra Guru, Bubblies grows up within the hijra community, while growing up he absorbing harsh comments by the conservative Pakistani society, still optimistic looks for a "real job" and ends up in a hurricane, lost, wrecked and confused...
No ware to go what shall one must do? Die or move on? or just hide from this community?
These questions revolve around him and lead him to his destination... a citizen of Pakistan suffers at the hands of narrow mindedness and he is forced to wastes a productive life time, to live at the edge of poverty, yes a citizen because we must realize they are one of us a part of this nation that claims equality and refuge for all, that is what bubbly represents a broken shattered human yes a human because the 3rd gender are humans not animals, they are no different, they are just like you and me...
