CGiii Comment

In Havana, a sweet gay boy falls for a vile straight boy and together they decide to escape - ill-equipped - to Miami...those inexplicable things we do for unrequited love! Here lies the problem with the film...it doesn't make sense, there's not even a glimmer, a hint that love could blossom between them...it seems that stupidity reigns supreme...and, it just gets a whole lot worse.

Technically, everything is in sound working order - there are a few clumsy edits...but, the cinematography is pretty damn good. The performances are above average, the score is exceptional.

So what went wrong...Mulloy's writing, the lack of character development and her penchant for unnecessary nudity and irrelevance (the English family scene, what was that about?), the erection?!? Bad call.

This is a film of 2 halves - the good half; the Havana the tourists don't see and, the bad half...the last, incredulous third.

The overall effect: eating a delicious Belgian Choux Bun only to discover a finger nail in the last bite.
