Addiction...a subject that has been visited many times before...and, will be many times more.
The drug addict is a character that lends itself to a multi-faceted performance, the highs and the lows, the self-destruction...the hedonism. This isn't a grubby junkie saga...far from it. Good-looking, good job, great life...Javi has it all and Oriol Pla throws his entire acting arsenal into the part...with explosive repercussions and monologues that will tear your heart out.
Addiction is a great leveller. It doesn't care where you came from, it doesn't care where you are going, it only cares about aiding and abetting...you on your own self-destructive track. As for the collateral damage - well, they are just part of the process, the families and friends who clean up the mess.
One other thing addicts have in common, they are all card-sharks at playing the blame game. And, this is where Yo, Adicto really stands head and shoulders above other similar tales...with a head-on, catastrophic collision with...BLAME! It's not pretty...it is immensely and intensely cruel. A seething indictment on the lack of personal responsibility.
By writing his story, Javier Giner took back his responsibility and now has a foothold on the eternal road of recovery. He said, "Oriol Pla is the series and the series is Oriol." Bear witness to this actor, he gave absolutely everything and more. Force majeure has never been so perfectly presented.
