CGiii Comment

The first episode is rife with subtext, wooden acting and has the stodgiest of scripts. Not a good beginning.

The second episode...the acting is (still) abysmal.

The third episode...the main culprit for the abysmal acting is killed off...things are looking up.

The fourth...these hideous women would make any man turn...and, the men are all so camp.

The fifth...this is becoming an arduous chore - all those stiff upper lips and the acute racism...repellent.

The sixth...the penny drops...it's all about getting f&*ked or being f&*ked - by prospective husbands (as long as they are in the same class), by the British or, by the Indians...the writing is awful, the acting worse...and in walks a camp little poof called Tony...

We don't know how much more of this crap we can take...!

Seven...things are getting a little spicy...racy even. Deflowering virgins, bisexual hostesses and pederasts...surely not!

Eight...lesbian accusations and pansy nurses...and, a ghost.

....moving on...rapidly...

You will not believe the ending...!

The(ir) Blurb...

The British Raj: though their position seems secure, thoughtful English men and women know that "their" time in India is coming to an end. The story begins with an unjust arrest for rape, and the consequences of this echo through the series. Questions of identity and personal responsibility are explored against a background of war and personal intrigue.
