All About E

  • Director: Louise Wadley
  • Writer: Louise Wadley
  • Producer: Jay Rutovitz

CGiii Comment

Louise Wadley's debut feature has garnered an inexplicable amount of praise. Some have even hailed it as a lesbian 'classic' - seriously, what film did you watch!?! Because...it certainly wasn't this one!

All About E is not - by any stretch of the imagination - a classic. It's not the worst film ever made...but, it does feature some of the worst accents ever to disgrace a small independent feature.

If you can't do the accent justice, don't do the accent at all - yes, we are talking about you, Simon Bolton...that phonetically produced Scottish brogue was akin to cat's claws being dragged down an antique blackboard.

As for the Irish - well, they were represented by an ill-fashioned ditzy queen - forget about the accent, the performance is a demented, kaleidoscopic mis-fire - yes, we're talking about you, Brett Rogers.

That's the supporting boys dealt with...now, for the leading ladies. The over-acting of the males is matched - in contrast - with the under-acting of the females. Obviously, Wadley's vision was...the poofs will supply the levity, the dykes do pathos...well, that didn't work.

All About E is a remarkably well-shot film - shame about the wardrobe malfunction, the decidedly weak premise and those bloody awful accents.
