Forget revisionist history...
This is sexed-up history...
Infidelity by the bucket-load, rampant bonking whenever, wherever...with whoever...all designed to capture and retain the audience's attention. Not the easiest of tasks for the historical drama. As for accuracy...does the audience really care? Not when there is this amount of flesh on show!
From the off...it's impressive. High concept opening credits...accompanied by the magnificence of M83's Outro...a £24 million budget...savagely good photography...and, wigs that don't look like wigs!
What more could you ask for?
One or two likeable characters would be a good start...someone to root for amid the debauched decadence.
It's early days...but, it certainly looks as if it's going to be a thrilling, somewhat depraved, rollercoaster ride...with great wigs and better music!
30 episodes later...and, the debauchery ended. Thrilling...it most definitely was!
