Well...why not reveal every aspect of your life...for the world to mull over?!?

Tig Notaro is - practically - unknown in Europe...and, she doesn't seem to be particularly huge in America...that is - until this film hit the festivals and garnered a credible amount of attention...HBO jumped in and gave her...her very own TV special.

Yip...there's much to say about shameless self-promotion and wearing your heart on your sleeve.

The film itself can be divided into four parts: the stand-up, the relationship, the surrogacy and, the cancer.

The stand-up is deadpan, too dead-pan...the material (before the cancer): a little too flimsy and repetitive.

The relationship...exactly, who is interested in the will she/won't she, the on/off debacle of a lesbian relationship?

The surrogacy...this should have been edited out...a monumental mockery of procreation.

The cancer...bravely dealt with...and, an endless source of new [somewhat dubious] material...

It's more more reality than documentary...there is a peculiarity in the world of stand-up, the less you give of yourself, the more you give to the audience...think of the great comics, few ever revealed themselves...they were characters.

Ms Notaro reveals everything, leaving no mysterious residue, there is no character here, it's her...a very likeable woman who has - like many, many people - faced and battled with hardship.

Perhaps, that's the nature of things now...throw it all out there!

But...it's worth remembering: withholding...keeps them interested.

The(ir) Blurb...

An intimate, mixed media documentary that follows Tig Notaro, a Los Angeles based comedian, who just days after being diagnosed with invasive stage II breast cancer changed the course of her career with a poignant stand-up set that became legendary overnight.

This documentary explores Tig's extraordinary journey as her career ignites and as her life unfolds in grand and unexpected ways, all the while continuing to battle a life-threatening illness and falling in love. This film is a hybrid of comedy and drama that captures a personal journey about facing crisis head on with honesty and grace and overcoming pain and suffering with the healing power of comedy.

It's a story about moving forward during a period of your life when you don't know what is going to happen. When you are willing to risk it all for what you believe is the right thing to do and for what you want to happen in this life.
