CGiii Comment

Chabrol: considered a master of mystery...if this is an example of his mastery...then, he was, by no stretch of the imagination, a contender to Hitchcock.

The direction is stagnant and sterile.

Casting his wife in the central role, regardless of her inability to act, was not a prudent choice. He treats her like a trophy - yes, she is a striking woman, the numerous posed close-ups are testament to her bone structure.

The inclusion of the parasitical gay couple has to be the most grotesque depiction of a same-sex relationship.

But, the final nail in this thrill-less, badly acted thriller is the snail's pace - a plod to what can only be described as the weakest of endings.

The(ir) Blurb...

Frédérique is a rich and beautiful woman who picks up a female street artist called "Why". It is December and they go to her villa in Saint Tropez, which is inhabited by a couple of odd gay men. Both women fall for the local architect Paul Thomas. However Why says that she is not interested in him, so Frédérique invites him to move into the villa.
