It doesn’t pull any punches - but, it does deliver a few slaps.
Prison dramas need more than unbridled brutality, male rape and gangs...to make them important.
This is gritty and too stagey – some of the performances are rather good, some are terrible.
One speech does stand out and may be deemed brave for its time.
Ultimately, it lacks the necessary intelligence and sophistication to raise it above its bog-standard peers.
