CGiii Comment

Well...one thing is for certain: You're either going love it or loathe it! And, according to the Box Office, the latter seems to be the case.

Billy Eichner not only has an axe to grind, he carries around a massive chip on his shoulder...and, needlessly, whines relentlessly. And...surprise, surprise, his character is exactly the same! Irritating from start to finish. He just doesn't shut up...incessant and erroneously incandescent, his opinions and historical knowledge are not those of a scholar.

Mr Eichner has a stab at heteronormativity by presenting his vision of homonormativity...and, what a vision that is! 'We' [as in gay men] are [almost exclusively] composed of buffed-up, testosterone-injecting, professional nymphomaniacs...and, if you are not a buffed-up, testosterone-injecting, professional nymphomaniac...then, you either were one or [desperately] want to become one. For those [other than gay white men] who inhabit our every-growing LGBTQ++A2ZXY... spectrum, representation comes at a price, as the butt of the joke...with Bisexuals getting a pounding. For a film that claims to be both transgressive and progressive, it is incredibly myopic and shallow.

C'mon...rom-coms aren't meant to be intellectual. Rom-coms are meant to be romantic, funny, simple pure escapism.

It really all depends on your sense-of-humour and your sensitivities. But...when you paint large swathes of our community with stereotypical brushes as Mr Eichner has done...eyebrows will rise and tempers will start to boil.

Not the feel-good romy-comedy it purports to be...but, a non-stop, sarcastic sermon delivered by an absolute pain-in-the-ass!
