Was Truman Capote - truly - that awful!?!
Tom Hollander becomes the latest - in a litany of actors to don that Southern drawl and spew consistent venom - he did not hold back by any stretch of the imagination. He's vile.
This is by - no means - an all-revealing bio-pic of the writer - what this is...is a few significant years in a 59 year old life...of a déclassé socialite mingling with the upper echelons of wealth - didn't he do well!?! And then, fell! To all of his doing.
Truman Capote killed a woman - not by his hand...but, by his toxic insinuation...aka, his lies, his fiction. That's manslaughter. His punishment - only because those who were not so sensitive...ostracised him, totally. According to this depiction, this - after a while - led to his much-sought-after atonement...unfortunately, that's where Gus Van Sant looses control...when fiction takes over from fact...problems arise. He should have demanded a re-write...rather than stick with the given script.
The actors do shine...especially Tom Hollander...but, as weirdly entertaining as it is...it fails to reveal anything that we don't already know.
