For Rainbow

Festival de Cinema e Cultura da Diversidade Sexual

In 17 editions, For Rainbow has attracted a predominantly young audience with a keen interest, not only in the film screenings, but also in all the attractions that the Festival promotes, seeking to value the LGBTI+ cultural contribution and give visibility to issues related to these populations.

For Rainbow was born with the proposal to introduce in the cultural calendar of Fortaleza an event with the permanent mission of spreading and valuing the LGBTI+ culture, besides promoting citizenship to these populations, encouraging audiovisual production and respect to sexual diversity and peace culture. Already in its first edition, For Rainbow has become the largest entirely free event in the country in this format and theme, and undoubtedly had a significant positive impact in our city, showing that it is possible and healthy to live with diversity and respect.

From its third edition on, For Rainbow started presenting theater, music, dance and visual arts performances during the movie breaks, as a way to attract a larger and more diverse audience, besides adding artists from other artistic languages. In its fourth edition, the Festival became international and inaugurated its feature film competitive showcase.

For Rainbow embodies an intense work of cultural resistance, which has as main actors artists from different parts of the world, who have lent their art to contribute to the fight against lgbtophobic violence and the promotion of LGBTI+ citizenship, helping to build a culture that ensures dignity and equal rights for women and men, without prejudice of sexual orientation, belief, racial ethnics or gender identity.

Awards & Prizes...

The films selected by the curatorship will compete in three categories: Brazilian Short Film, Foreign Short Film and Foreign Feature Film.

Each of them will award the Elke Maravilha trophy to the following categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Art, Best Soundtrack and Best Soundtrack. Finally, the João Nery Award, a recognition given to productions that essentially address LGBTI+ militancy and the reflection of this performance in people's lives, and the Critics Award, for Best Brazilian Feature Film and Best Short Film.
