Exposures: Montréal Trans Film Festival
Exposures Montréal is a trans film collective dedicated to celebrating and uplifting the work of Trans* (Trans, Non-Binary, Gender Non-Conforming, Intersex, and Two-Spirit) artists and filmmakers.
Following the success of our inaugural edition in 2024—the first trans film festival in Montréal and the first of its kind in Canada in over 20 years—we are thrilled to announce the second annual Montréal Exposures Trans Film Festival, taking place September 16–21, 2025!
Our 2025 edition will feature multiple daily screenings, including feature films and curated short film collections. Beyond the screen, we will offer workshops, panel discussions, and community events, collaborating with trans-focused organizations across Montréal to foster dialogue, skill-sharing, and community building.
**Festival theme**
The theme for our second edition is "Beyond Visibility: A Space of Our Own." Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s key feminist text, it reaffirms our commitment to cultivating a trans film culture. Visibility alone is not enough—we need spaces that center, support, and sustain trans creators. Our festival is not just about seeing ourselves on screen; it is about reclaiming agency over our narratives, our art, and our futures. By fostering a space where trans filmmakers can connect, share, and create on their own terms, we move beyond mere representation toward solidarity and liberation.
Through screenings, workshops, and community-driven initiatives, we are building a space that is not just about being seen, but about being heard, valued, and supported. Furthermore, we aim to fill critical gaps in resources for trans artists by creating a space for community to meet; connecting trans artists to new audiences; and nurturing the next generation of creators through film-making workshops, along with other activities to support artistic growth in our community.
This year's festival will include an Audience's Choice Award, Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short, Best Animated Short, Best Experimental Short and Best Feature.
