Outshine Film Festival - Fort Lauderdale
OUTshine is South Florida's premiere showcase for LGBTQ+ films producing a large scale festival in Fort Lauderdale (October) and in Miami (April) .
OUTshine - Fort Lauderdale, is a critically acclaimed event, based in the world-renowned South Florida city of Fort Lauderdale.
The 16th Fort Lauderdale festival will take place from October 17 - 27, 2024. We will be HYBRID with both IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL screenings.
OUTshine is committed to its mission: To inspire, entertain and educate the public, encourage a sense of community through international and culturally diverse film, video and other media that offer historical and contemporary perspectives on the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience.
The festival has grown from a 3-day event in which 25 films were presented to the current format of 10 days with 65+ films. OUTshine is an internationally acclaimed event serving as a platform for numerous World Premiers, North American Premiers and East Coast Premieres.
CASH PRIZE OF $1,000 FOR WINNERS OF AUDIENCE AWARDS - BEST FEATURE, BEST DOCUMENTARY AND BEST SHORT WILL BE AWARDED THE CASH PRIZE.

Set in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1890, two women from the Mexican aristocracy develop a secret romance that goes against the societal impositions surrounding them, risking their lives and reputation. The importance of making a film about the lesbian women who lived in Jalisco, Mexico, during the Porfiriato (1890) has been clear to Amelia from the origins of this project. These are women who have been invisible, for we have no historical memory of their existence. The short film explores the past with a modern perspective, consolidating a period that invites us to question where we are today.
