Appalachian Queer Film Festival

Appalachian Queer Film Festival

Friday, 03 October 2025 until Saturday, 04 October 2025

Our mission is to bring queer films and filmmakers to the beautiful state of West Virginia, break down stereotypes and broaden minds throughout Appalachia.

The AQFF will make it’s home in Lewisburg, WV – a small, hip, historic town in the Greenbrier Valley. In 2011, this quaint 3500 person artist colony town was voted the coolest town in America. We’re excited to not only share great films with the people of this region, but also share the people with great filmmakers.

We are a filmmaker’s festival–founded by filmmakers, organized by filmmakers and programmed by filmmakers.

Our hope is that filmmakers will use this unique opportunity to connect with other filmmakers, show their work to an audience who otherwise go unnoticed, and develop an appreciation and respect for the people, culture, and landscape of this historic region. Many outside filmmakers may have negative preconceptions about West Virginia. We want to show these outsiders the beauty of our region and its people.

On the other hand, many Appalachians may have little exposure to queer films or filmmakers. For them, we want to break down any negative preconceptions or stereotypes by introducing them to fascinating queer artists and films and providing the opportunity for them to be moved by their work.
