AKA...Behind the Candelabra...albeit without the camp...but, with a plethora of singlets and rough, chunky men.
Channing Tatum acts and walks like an ape...seriously, he does. Now, this could be a fantastic character study [impression] of Mark Schultz...if it is - then, he did a good job and it's fair to say that Mark Schultz acts and walks like an ape...no disrespect intended.
Here lies the problem...according to this, Schultz was/is a complete and petulant tosser - Du Pont: a creepy, rich weirdo...we couldn't care less about either of them.
Now, there are those that scream subtext - well, we saw no subtext...this is an out-and-out gay story...rich man seduces rough man...bleaches his hair, plies him cocaine and alcohol, slaps his face and then, they both go off and sulk...oops, that's the story in a nutshell.
The midnight 'wrestling' scene is about as subtle as Liberace!
Moving on...the film tends to [perpetually] stagnate and then - inexplicably - leaps towards its rather abrupt and rushed end.
Without giving too much away - the director and writer refuse to give a sliver of insight or a modicum of explanation as to Du Pont's actions...surely, that was the point in making the film in the first place. Obviously not!
All we can say is: Do not believe the hype!

Based on true events, Foxcatcher tells the dark and fascinating story of the unlikely and ultimately tragic relationship between an eccentric multi-millionaire and two champion wrestlers. When Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) is invited by wealthy heir John du Pont (Steve Carell) to move on to the du Pont estate and help form a team to train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics at his new state-of-the-art training facility, Schultz jumps at the opportunity, hoping to focus on his training and finally step out of the shadow of his revered brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo). Driven by hidden needs, du Pont sees backing Schultz's bid for Gold and the chance to "coach" a world-class wrestling team as an opportunity to gain the elusive respect of his peers and, more importantly, his disapproving mother (Vanessa Redgrave).
