CGiii Comment
Graf's film essay takes us from the Weimar Republic to the heart of the Third Reich. A political catastrophe, viewed from the point of view of art, especially literature. An attempt to approach the psychologies of the time. Everyone writes on their own, bringing writers into the spotlight who remained in Germany during the Nazi regime. Of course, Erich Kästner plays a central role, Graf returns to Fabian, among others. Gottfried Benn, Hans Fallada, Will Vesper and Ina Seidel form a kaleidoscope of positions and behaviors regarding Nazi rule.
