CGiii Comment

David (Akili McDowell) picks a fight at school and we see a prodigal child's struggle to maintain his happy-go-lucky persona despite the trauma of poverty and addiction at home. David tries to hide behind the protection of his imagination to survive, but cracks begin to show as predatory forces become overbearing. The highly respected teacher Dr. Woods-Trapp (Phylicia Rashad) is introduced and begins to advocate on David's behalf, but with strong discipline.
