CGiii Comment

What a devilish wee film this turned out to be.

In truth, the title alone was a bit of a put-off. The opening credits didn’t help, neither did the first dreamy scene…then, little by little…a wee warm glow starts to spread through your body.

Self re-invention is rarely endearing...but, Beanie Feldstein endears, thanks to a crisp script. Yes...insecure teen girls will get more out of this film than a cynical middle-aged man, nothing wrong with that! But...it does deserve a much bigger/wider audience. Teen boys, questioning, understanding and accepting their sexualities will certainly find something they can relate to. Parents too...will laugh and shake their heads, recoiling in disbelief as to what their own terrible teens got up to...and, realising that some phases are exactly that...and, some are what their terrible teen actually is!

How to Build a Girl is a tongue-in-cheek, aspirational and inspirational wee film...and, it's a hoot to boot...stuffed full of ditzy charm.
