Trout (The)

Country: France, Language: French, 103 mins

Original Title

La Truite
  • Director: Joseph Losey
  • Writer: Roger Vailland; Monique Lange
  • Producer: Christian Ferry; Patricia Losey

CGiii Comment

Losey's penultimate film...and, quite possibly, his worst.

The timeline is so erratic that you have to rely on Huppert's ever-changing hairstyle to keep on top of things...if ever a hatchet job was done on a film - here it is.

But, woefully, that's not it's only problem...the writing is flatulent...wimpy gay man marries lusty girl...who pisses of to Japan with a business man after a very posh game of ten-pin bowling!!! It is as ridiculous as it sounds.

And then there's the direction...or lack of...Losey had little in the way of talent to begin with, he needed a great writer as with Pinter's The Servant...but, by the 1980s, any trace had evaporated - here is the proof.
