CGiii Comment
It's been 5 years since Kimberly Peirce graced us with her presence. Expectations were running high. And then, the announcement came...a re-make of Carrie!!!
Breaths were held...for a wholly unnecessary, lazy and worthless re-make, littered with unforgivable mistakes.
Gone is the chill factor, gone is the Spacek awkward fragility...indeed, absolutely everything that the (dated) original had...has been scrubbed away. Even, the iconic image of the blood-soaked virgin becomes a shabby clone of Linda Blair - perhaps a [cheap] homage to a far superior film.
Moretz is ill-equipped to play Carrie - the opening scene assures us that this actress cannot play awkward...the depth of her performance is less than a millimetre.
The budget was $30 million - what appears on screen does no justice to this price tag whatsoever.
The edits are bordering on the less-than-amateur. The special effects could have been achieved by an avid amateur. As for the direction...well, let's put it this way: if there is any justice in the movie-making world, it will be a long time before Ms Peirce will be calling 'action' again.
An embarrassment. And, as for the trashy ending...words simply failed us.

The(ir) Blurb...
The outcast teenager Carrie White is bullied by her classmates at high-school. Her mother Margaret White is a pious and paranoid woman that sees sin everywhere and the need of self-inflicting punishment. When Carrie has her first period, she does not understand what is happening to her and her classmates humiliate her in the changing room. The spiteful Chris Hargensen videotapes Carrie with her cell phone and posts in Internet. Their teacher Ms. Desjardin punishes the students, but when Chris challenges her, she is suspended and consequently she can not go to the prom. Meanwhile Carrie discovers that she has telekinesis and learns how to control her ability. The popular Sue Snell feels bad with her attitude towards Carrie and asks her boyfriend Tommy Ross to invite Carrie to go with him to the prom to make up for what she did to Carrie. But Chris and her boyfriend Billy Nolan plot an evil prank with her friends to seek vengeance for Carrie with tragic consequences.
