CGiii Comment

Presumably, this is all the episodes of the web series bundled together to make a feature length 'documentary' - well, they needn't have bothered!

As we all know, filmmakers are [usually] the first to jump onto any old bandwagon that drives into town. The tsunamis of same-sex wedding docs, trans*docs have been an unstoppable force. Brace yourselves, here comes another one!

The gay dad [or dads] tidal wave is just about to hit...and, everyone is going to go 'aaaw' at the cute little baby. Gay Hollywood Dad - certainly - has the cutest little baby...and, that's all it has!

Now, if you are expecting a meaningful discussion on - say - single parenting...or, a debate on surrogacy versus adoption...then, look elsewhere. Because...this is a self-serving, self-promoting film about a [somewhat delusional] filmmaker who happens to have a [very cute] baby!

Right slap bang in the middle of this documentary, the viewer is treated to Quentin Lee's short [horror] film, On Halloween - indeed, it is a horror! As a director, Mr Lee isn't about to get a star on the walk-of-fame!

6 directors have been credited...yes, 6!!! Perhaps, they got a little confused with the terminology...'camera operator' does not mean director!

Gay Hollywood Dad is a repackaged home-movie/web-series...that really says nothing meaningful about parenting...or, about filmmaking. But, it does raise one important question: Why make something so fatuously self-serving in the first place?!?
