CGiii Comment

Not to be confused with Teaches of Peaches...having never heard of Peaches [apart from being a guest judge on Canada's Drag Race], it is quite something to have two feature length documentaries made about the same person, in the same year. Why all the [sudden] interest in this performance artiste?

She is - most definitely - an acquired taste...as is this film. Marie Losier's haphazard approach to filmmaking is her distinguishable trademark and, coupled with Peaches' mad antics, the result is more slap-dash than refined. But...do we get to see what makes Peaches tick? No, not really. Does that matter? No, not really - unless you are fully invested in the Peachesphere. She may come across as a loose cannon...but, her roots are as conservative as a gingham tablecloth.

Peaches is an act, a stage persona who seems to be over-stepping their mark...by increasingly invading Merrill's personal space. If a line was drawn, it is becoming blurrier with the passing of time...perhaps, it is a symbiotic relationship...alas, we'll never know, this film merely scratches the surface. Perhaps Teaches of Peaches goes deeper...you never know until you watch it!

The(ir) Blurb...

For the last seventeen years, Marie Losier has filmed the singer Peaches, the queen of Electropunk and a true feminist queer icon. Between jam-packed concerts, a close relationship with her sister Suri, and the staging of her first opera, Peaches always feels the urge to reinvent herself and explore boundaries. On- and off-stage, an intimate portrait on an inspiring, taboo-shattering artist with boundless energy, embracing every phase of life and turning her body into art.
