CGiii Comment

Definitely, one for the countless fans of 'The Street'...how it all began, from its humble beginnings way back in 1960...and, still going strong.

Tony Warren, a young gay man - when homosexuality was illegal in the UK - devised and wrote the show...received pronunciation was thrown out of the window and the working-class were given the most realistic show they had ever seen...with accents to match.

It's not exactly a warts-and-all expose...rather, a light-hearted account. Warren's homosexuality is played-out to the max...which seems a little exaggerated considering the oppressive climate of the time.

Each and all excel in their impersonations...it's a little cruel but not too cruel. William Roache (played by his son) is shown to be an 'actor' with aspirations higher than a lowly soap. And, Violet Carson is a bit of a monster...

Still...thoroughly entertaining, thorough nostalgia....

RIP Mr Warren...many people thank you.
