Bogarde's first important role...

A likeable murderer in the 50s - that's a pretty hard thing to pull off.

Crichton does it with style...there is so much to like about this film...but Jon Whiteley, later to become an Oxford Don, steals the show with his touching performance.

They don't make them like this anymore.
