My Hustler

Country: United States, Language: English, 79 mins

  • Director: Andy Warhol; Chuck Wein

CGiii Comment

Dial-a-Hustler - an old hustler teaches a young hustler new tricks and never has a more boring picture been painted.

Okay, the joke is over - it's not the 60s anymore - film-making has moved on and this has stood still - like all of Warhol's cinematic output.

Your 15 minutes are up.

The(ir) Blurb...

Filmed on Fire Island, this two reel, 70 minute Warhol film covers the activities of the "Dial A Hustler" service, as an older man seeks a young hustler for a companion.

Andy Warhol’s My Hustler is a kind of underground chamber play whose characters jockey for erotic attention. The prize of this competition is studly Factory denizen Paul America, who plays a sex worker on the clock in Fire Island. Yet a victor never emerges, and after a flurry of brilliantly improvised banter the film is left unresolved. “Warhol’s films don’t have happy endings,” the art historian Douglas Crimp averred. “They don’t have endings at all. They just end.”
