CGiii Comment

Out: Stories of Lesbian and Gay Youth (1993) is a feature documentary I directed for the National Film Board of Canada early in my career. It was a ground-breaking film that features young people from diverse backgrounds who share their stories of coming out and dealing with society's homophobia. The film was invited to major festivals (e.g. Berlin, Nyon, Montreal) and won several awards including a Gold Apple (Oakland), Gold Cindy (New York), and a Cable Ace Award nomination for best international documentary special on U.S. cable television. It aired on CBC, PBS, and HBO/Cinemax. In this excerpt, youth and their parents confront the issue of gay bashing.
