If you loved the original...let's face it, most of you did...then, engage brain cells, for this ain't no walk-in-the-park.
Unlike the original, 2049 offers little in the way of emotion. It's a far more cerebral, colder endeavour, it even dares to question your interpretation of its predecessor. The faithful are howlingly mad...but, 35 years has flown by...new filmmakers, new audiences, new generations have all emerged [as they tend to do]...this film is aimed at them!
So...sit back and take in the new. This visuals are more striking. The narrative, more complex. The soundtrack, industrial. And, with Harrison Ford entering have way through, it's a reverential nod to the past.
No doubt, in 35 years time, there will be Bladerunner 2084 [how Orwellian!]...with an aged Ryan Gosling and just a distant memory of Harrison Ford. Times change, stories evolve...2049 reflects that perfectly.
