"Coming out can be a nightmare"
It's 1987. Daisy, 21, sits in the middle of her room watching ads on an old tube TV when an ad for Heather Brown's workout tape comes on. She closely studies Heather's body. Banging on the wall is heard, Daisy rushes to hide the TV in a box in her closet right before her mom, Suzanne, late-60s, barges in. Suzanne investigates the noise looking for the source of this "sin."
Daisy blames the neighbors, keeping her secret safe. The next day we see Daisy at work at a small local video store with her coworker and best friend, Meg, 20. The sexual tension between Daisy and Meg is prominent and seems reciprocated. Daisy tries to kiss Meg, who pulls away, shocked and confused when- Harvey, 21, Meg's boyfriend walks into the store surprising Meg and interrupting this moment. A devastated Daisy steals a Heather Brown tape and takes it home. She secretly watches the tape and begins to pleasure herself while watching Heather. The next morning when hiding the TV in her closet, Heather talks to Daisy through the TV even though it's unplugged. Daisy then starts compulsively masturbating to the Heather tape every night, getting more obsessed with Heather who continues to speak to Daisy, putting her in a trance-like state.
One morning, Suzanne barges into her room to find Daisy passed out in front of the TV screen. Enraged, Suzanne slaps Daisy and starts berating her with crosses while trying to dispose of the TV and demanding that she must repent. Once Suzanne grabs the Heather tape, Daisy wrestles with her mother trying to save the tape. Suzanne stomps on the tape, breaking it into pieces. Daisy crumbles, broken-hearted, and once again put in a trance-like state. Suzanne pushes Daisy, snapping her out of it, and without thinking, Daisy grabs a large crucifix statuette and clocks, Suzanne on the head. Daisy hides her mother in her closet and rushes off to the video store for a replacement tape. Meg holds the last Heather tape hostage, demanding that Daisy tells her what's going on.
Daisy confronts Meg about their awkward encounter. She leans in as if going for the kiss again, making Meg flinch, but instead, takes the tape from her and storms out. Back at home, she puts in the new tape and we see Heather alone in a now disheveled aerobics set thanking Daisy for saving her. Daisy appears inside this room with Heather and they share a moment of intimacy before she finally goes for the kiss. This time it's reciprocated and starts getting intimate. Back in Daisy's room, it's empty. No Daisy or Heather to be found.
