Koch

Country: USA, Language: English, 100 mins

  • Director: Neil Barsky
  • Producer: Neil Barsky; Jenny Carchman

CGiii Comment

Koch - love him/hate him - could not be ignored...he flew high, crashed, brushed himself down, rose and fell...again.

The good times, the bad times...too many times to fit into 100 minutes...it's more of a cursory history...with a few - but not too many - awkward questions...typically of Koch, summarily dealt with...

And, the question on everyone's lips is...

Mind your own fucking business...

You have to wait until that question is asked...

If you know nothing of the man and his achievements & scandals...this is a good [mostly affectionate] place to start. But...don't expect any mad revelations.

The(ir) Blurb...

Three-time New York City Mayor (1978-1989) Ed Koch was combative, funny, and blunt. He was also intensely private. 'Koch' gives us a contemporary history of the world's greatest city, and an intimate portrait of the 86-year old former mayor, as he confronts his own mortality and legacy. The film examines issues still relevant today - race, homelessness, AIDS, and gay rights - and gives us a window into the trials and tribulations of the nation's most famous mayor in the world's most wondrous city.
