CGiii Comment

From the pen of an ex-barrister...so, he has got to know what he's writing about...wrong.

Apart from a brief scene with a transvestite in episode 1...considering this is a prison drama, there is a staggering lack of homosexual content...perhaps, there is the odd whiff of subtext...

Episode 1...

With plot holes as big as the Eurotunnel and a comprehensive collective of stereotypes....the world-weary detective, the seedy lawyer, the angelic accused...Criminal Justice has a very long way to go before it has a skirmish with credibility.

Episode 2...

Even more stereotypes...the crooked guard, the philosophical long-termer, the junkie, the black 'boss'...and the man who thinks (and acts) like a dog is, frankly, ridiculous.

The writing takes a turn for the worse - the 'veal' metaphor is laughable...the mobile phone up the bum...and allowed...c'mon.

Episode 3...

There is a glimmer of intelligence in the writing...just a glimmer - with the court exchanges...but, then it goes back into the cells and nonsense prevails.

Episode 4...

Exactly the same as episode 3.

Episode 5...

Did the writer run out of ideas?

A messy and rapid conclusion to an underwritten, haphazard exposé of the English justice system...from the pen of an ex-barrister came an unaccomplished and bitter tirade with more loose ends than a giant pom-pom.

Season 2: We may get round to watching it...however, it's not high on the priority list.
