CGiii Comment

A perfectly good idea...unfortunately, that [good] idea wasn't thoroughly fleshed out before the cameras started to roll.

The lesbian interest lasts for the blink of an eye and is at the very beginning, a little same-sex flirting and that is [disappointingly] it...the rest is an unstable [and idealistic] look at a mother's religious conversion...into the world of Islam.

A hefty subject indeed. Not a hefty film! The mother flounces into Islam and her skimpily-clad, alcohol-drinking daughter [eventually] follows [temporarily]...why? Well, that's a question that never really gets answered...she [the daughter] is totally unsuited to this 'demure' lifestyle and once she sets her eyes on the booze and a buff young man...all her new found religious principles go flying out of the nearest window! The booze is downed and the boy is bedded!

This is hijab politics without any politics...unless posting a picture of yourself on Instagram wearing a hijab [and very little else] can be viewed as a political act...or, is it just downright stupidity? Obviously, it's a stupid thing to do and the subsequent scandal comes as no surprise...and that is the main problem with the film...there are no surprises!
