Little Sparrows

Country: Australia, Language: English, 88 mins

  • Director: Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen
  • Writer: Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen
  • Producer: Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen; Eva Di Blasio

CGiii Comment

Chen's debut feature...it's not good news.

When the actors aren't acting badly - they over act. There is one standout performance ensuring that this particular actor will never work again.

A director who can't direct actors or spot a bad performance - is not a director. It's that simple.

A writer who writes dialogue as if it should be read from the page - is not worthy of such a credit.

There was no point in there being a lesbian sister - it gives nothing to the film but a few hideous, straight-to-camera monologues.

The whole thing reeks of improv...bad improv at that...!

The(ir) Blurb...

In the midst of an Australian summer, we meet three sisters. Nina is widowed with two young children. Anna is an aspiring actress unhappily married to a filmmaker. Christine is a med student who is yet to fully come to terms with her sexuality. When their mother Susan's breast cancer returns, the family is faced with choices and the reality of their last Christmas together. Simple and sincere, Little Sparrows celebrates life and the unconditional love of a mother.
