CGiii Comment

Night Out is a searing and dramatic exploration of two men, a gay marriage and a violent action that changes their lives forever. Night Out was Writer/Director Lawrence Johnston's impressive debut short feature. Made in 1990, it was an Official Selection at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival (Un Certain Regard), a year when no Australian features were selected. It is also the first queer film ever to be selected from Australia in Cannes as an official invitation. It was named one of the year's ten best by Elliot Stein in the New York Village Voice and was nominated for an AFI Award for Best Screenplay. Lawrence Johnston followed this with his famous film Eternity, the award-winning feature drama Life, as well as last year's Fallout about Nevil Shute's famous novel On The Beach.
