CGiii Comment

If you know nothing about the feminist movement...then, this is a very good place to start.

Thankfully, it doesn't shirk away from its own controversies...the in-house [vicious] disagreements, the class-divide, the racism, the homophobia!

Feminisim has come a long way...it still has a long way to go...it's all about equality. Everyone should be equal...it's that simple.

And, men should not be governing women's bodies...it's that simple.

The(ir) Blurb...

This documentary chronicles the early days of the women’s liberation movement and the brilliant women who brought the injustice of gender inequity to America’s attention.

Concentrating on the years 1966 to 1971, the audience is shown the beginnings of the liberation movement from the founding of NOW (National Organisation of Women) and W.I.T.C.H (Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell!) to the publication of Betty Friedan’s cultural changing novel The Feminist Mystique and the 1970 Women’s strike for equality conducted on the 50th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. The electricity and passion from the interviews of prominent figures who include the left-wing political essayist, Ellen Willis, and the feminist author Susan Brownmiller reveals a time of "consciousness-raising" groups and the empowerment of women through words. These women fought for rights that included childcare, abortion, equal pay and employment opportunities.

Using a mixture of archival footage and interviews from Karla Jay, Kate Millett and Rite Mae Brown, the film further delves into the complexities of how women’s identities were acknowledged within the movement that included lesbian rights on the women’s agenda.

She's Beautiful When She's Angry cleverly juxtaposes interviewed women with archival footage of their social activism, bringing audiences into a time where revolution was possible.
