CGiii Comment

TRACES explores the rising tension between Matthew and Gordon, two men whose professional collaboration conflicts with their personal connection. Set during the day before their opening art exhibition, they have work together while their interactions are the opposite – characterized by failure to communicate what they really want and oblivion to their counterparts’ actual needs. Seemingly the discussion between the two men revolves solely around the art piece, but is actually about the underlying problems of their relationship and therefore bound to clash. Showing the problems that come with age difference and opposite expectations, and the fear of getting hurt, the film provides an intimate look at the complexity of relationships heading towards escalation. In one evening, their brief interaction will shed light on the underlying complexities of an intersecting relationship. Can Matthew and Gordon share a product of love with the world without fixing the cracks that lie in between?
