CGiii Comment

How peculiar! It goes from the [near] sublime to the [absolute] ridiculous in just three episodes!

Episode 1 has all the ingredients required for a good, Gothic, neck-munching, camp vamp flick.

Episode 2 is on a rather small ship for what feels like an eternity...where people go missing...or, end up dead. And, the man who only appears at night is above and beyond suspicion! What!?!

Episode 3...jet propels itself into the 21st century...oh dear, the less said the better.

The writers - obviously - were given the BBC's diversity check list before they put pen-to-paper, after they ripped up Bram Stoker's original. Dracula is bisexual, Van Helsing is now a woman who happens to be a feminist nun...there's a gay mixed race couple, an Asian doctor and his disabled daughter...yip, it's tiresome box-ticking yet again!

There is a fine line between what is embarrassing and what is funny, the same goes for pantomime and 'Carry On' - this contorted and contrived version of Dracula crosses those lines so many times, it ends up being a scribble of the original. Moffat and Gatiss [the defiling writers] claimed they were bring something new to the table with their rendition...well, they obviously tripped before reaching that 'new' table, throwing all their 'hard-work' straight right into the fan!
