There are a couple of lines:

Even if he's a bit queer, he's a gentleman....[used in the original sense of the word].

And,

"Good thing he doesn't like girls"

Other than the fact that Ivor Novello was a gay man...there is nothing really gay about this. Or, are these line more that coincidence? Curiouser and curiouser!

We watched the 90 minute (beautifully) restored version with the Nitin Sawhney score.

A score which is over-powering, over-intrepreted...and, the songs are just wrong.

And, at 90 minutes, it's too long...but, that's not Hitchcock's fault. This is a re-envisioned version...with a strong start...weakening middle...and, a flaccid end.

Still...Hitchcock's vsion and innovation are clearly seen...a nascent master's work.

The(ir) Blurb...

A serial killer known as 'The Avenger' is on the loose in London, murdering blonde women. A mysterious man arrives at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Bunting looking for a room to rent. The Bunting's daughter is a blonde model and is seeing one of the detectives assigned to the case. The detective becomes jealous of the lodger and begins to suspect he may be the avenger.
